Malcolm's - good food, bad customer service

Malcolm's is a restaurant in Salcedo Village, Makati, famous for serving Wagyu beef in many forms. Wagyu Ribeye, Wagyu burger, Wagyu wasabe steak sandwich, Wagyu sirloin, and even Wagyu sisig.

I've eaten there for around 3 times if I remember correctly. While the first experiences were great - except for the price tag - the last one was outright BAD. Here's a breakdown of the events last June 26:

1. I and 6 of my colleagues went to Malcolm's at around 12 noon. We settled in the 2nd floor of the restaurant.
2. The waiter gave us a plate of chips to eat while we gave our orders. The chips were soft, as if they were old. The chips were actually given to us out of a cordoned area in the 2nd floor, and not from the ground floor. We ordered mostly Wagyu sisig (sisig+rice, around P385 per order.)
3. We were having a good time, joking around with one colleague of ours. Another group of my colleagues (there were 6-7 of them) went to Malcolm's around 10 minutes after we went there.
4. One hour after we got to Malcolm's, our orders were still not done. We followed up 3 times, each time, the waiter answers that's it's nearly done. The other group I mentioned in #3 were already eating.
5. The third time we followed-up, the guy said the plating was being prepared. Five minutes after, the plating was still not done. WTF.
6. We went down. Our food was not yet done! The restaurant manager apologized, saying that something wrong happened with their gas. (A few moments after, they handed out a dish of Wagyu sisig to a guy sitting in the ground floor.)
7. A good ten minutes passed by, and our order is still not done. Why were our colleagues able to get their orders quicker? They pre-ordered, Malcolm's said... so we thought it's our mistake.
8. We had already decided to take our food out, after more than 1 hour of staying in Malcolm's. They were kind enough to take off the service charge.
9. When we got back to the office, some of our orders missed spoons and forks. WTF again.
10. So we asked our colleagues (the other guys who ate at Malcolm's) if they did some sort of pre-ordering. THEY DIDN'T. Malcolm's fooled us.

I don't want to eat there again.

Transformers 2 - thoughts and vids

My review of Transformers 2 will come this weekend, but since Transformers 2 is now showing, I decided to go find something funny about it. Here are some of them :)

1. Stop motion video of Bumblebee beating the living s**t out of Optimus Prime.

Nice! Kick to the balls!

2. Jaw-dropping speed painting of Optimus Prime by Nico di Mattia.

Check out other di Mattia speed painting vids: the classic Transformers 1 Megan Fox hood scene, Bumblebee.

3. How about Optimus Prime dancing?

4. Funny transformers commercial for Double A, a paper brand.

A whole gamut of more videos is here.

5. How about Transformers 3? This news article says that if a third movie will be made, it will still be directed by Michael Bay, and Shia Labeouf said the movie "will be darker" and that "someone has to die."

6. The official music video of "New Divide" the Linkin Park song for Transformers 2.

7. Hot MOKO Transformers-themed photoshoot!! Sample pic below:

That's all for now folks!

PC assembly is the way to go when buying a PC

My cousin recently bought a computer by buying individual parts. Since he was quite busy, he asked me and my brother to assemble the pieces together, and test it out.

Upon assembly of the PC, I was quite impressed by both its beauty and computing power. The good thing is: it's cheap! Here is a rundown of the parts, and how much each costs:

1. Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 2.8 GHz, 3MB Cache 1066fsb qdr box (lga775) C2D -> P5500, 3yr warranty

2. Memory: 2 GB of RAM, Kingston, DDR2-800 pc2-6400 -> P1250, 1yr warranty

3. Graphics Card: Inno3d 9500GT, 1GB, 128 bit -> P2360, 1yr warranty

4. Hard Disk: 320GB, Seagate 16MB SATA HDD (SATA cables excluded) -> P2350, 2yr warranty

5. Motherboard: ASUS P5KPL-AM intel g31 (LGA 775 ->)P2600, 1yr warranty

6. DVD drive: Samsung DVD Writer, 22x dvdrw dual layer pata ls lightscribe black -> P1300, 3wk outright, 10mo warranty

7. Monitor: Samsung, 20” LCD wide (glossy) d-sub/DVI -> P7500, 3d outright, 1yr warranty

8. Speaker: Creative SBS 380 -> P1030, 3d outright, 3mo warranty

9. Printer: HP Deskjet 2560 usb -> P1980, 3d outright, 3d warranty

10. Keyboard & Mouse: Logitech G1 Gaming Desktop -> P1250, 2wk outright, 3m warranty

Pretty good specs, right? The thing ran Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, Red Alert 3 without a hitch. I can even play Warcraft 3 and surf using Firefox while having WC3 minimized. Must be wicked for the pocket too, don’t you think? If you haven't done the math yet: the total is around 29,000 pesos! I was initially under the impression that you can't get a decent computer undre 50K, but I guess the times have now changed.

In the future, just how much cheaper will computers get?

Swine flu/A H1N1 information booklet

Good reading material on swine flu or A H1N1, from the UN.

Some key highlights I'd like to point out from the file are:
How does H1N1 spread?
-> the same way as ordinary flu, person to person by coughing or sneezing, touching something with flu virus and touching your nose or mouth.
What should I do to keep getting infected?
-> wash your hands! stay in good general health, be physically active, manage stress, drink plenty of fluid, eat nutritious food, and avoid contact with sick people.

Funny chat with Elbot

So I'm chatting with Elbot for fun, and here's a rather amusing message between me and Elbot!

Me: So you're a gay
Elbot: You seem to be extremely interested in this theme. I wonder why...

Elbot is an AI program that can "chat" with you. Hours of countless fun, I must say. :)

Mybrute - weak brutes running list (part 1 of more to come)

This is a list of weak brutes in mybrute.com to help you level up your own brutes. The principle is simple: beating a brute at most 2 levels below you will give you 2 experience points, beating brutes more than 2 levels below you or being defeated gives you 1 experience points.

I'm going to post some of the weaker brutes I have seen along with a screenshot of their skills and weapons. I'll post more soon. If you know of more brutes, please add it in the comments. Thanks!

(part 2 of the weak brute series is here)

The severity of H1N1 (aka Swine Flu) in DLSU

So how severe is the H1N1 problem in DLSU? It turns out to be not as severe as the panic that surrounds it.

I just emailed Br Armin Luistro, and he said that "There is not much danger even for residents like the Brothers. We merely suspended classes as a precautionary measure to ensure that there will be limited public gatherings as we do contact tracing of those who may have been affected. As far as we can see, transmission seems to be very limited but we are still doing contact tracing with the help of DOH. In any case, DOH also tells us that all cases are considered mild and not life-threatening."

Nice news to hear :)

Breaking news: AH1N1 (swine flu) confirmed in DLSU-Manila

(update 5)

De La Salle is suspended from Jun 4-13 after a case of A (H1N1), also known as "swine flu," was confirmed today (Jun 3) by the Department of Health.

According to a memo released by DLSU President Br. Armin Luistro, the H1N1 victim is a female foreign student who arrived in the Philippines on May 12. It is not stated in the memo when the student submitted herself to medical analysis. According to a reliable source, the student started showing symptoms last May 29. It's not known if the student actually went to school that day.

According to unconfirmed sources, that the person in question is from either the College of Business and Economics or Computer studies, and is an exchange student from Japan. She was said to have arrived from Taiwan.

Even before the incident, the memo said that DLSU has been implementing precautionary measures against the virus, such as information dissemination, and regular disinfection of critical areas.

The memo urged the comunity to monitor flu-like symptoms and to stay away from large crowds.

Check the official DLSU site for up-to-date info on H1N1 and DLSU. According to ABS CBN news, "this is the first case in the country of a school applying the Department of Health (DOH) mandated alert status for A (H1N1) cases."

Manuel Quezon III said that "Health Sec. Duque says 120 possible contacts with girl who had H1N1 in DLSU."

Note: DLSU is also off-limits to employees. How about the Brothers though, who live in the campus??

Bryant, Pacquiao, Federer, Sharapova, Ronaldo, Liu in one Nike commercial??

This is a single 1 minute Nike commercial that stars Kobe Bryant, Cristiano Ronaldo, Roger Federer, Maria Sharapova, Manny Pacquiao, and Xiang Liu.

I wonder how much this seemingly simple TVC cost to make. Any guesses?
